Managing Multiple Generations in the IT Workforce

This project seeks to understand how the changing generational make-up of the IT workforce is affecting IT organizations and what they can do to ensure that they retain key legacy skills and knowledge while bringing in the next generation of highly skilled, technically-savvy workers.
As a first step in our research process, we prepared an online survey to collect important baseline information from LEF members. The survey contained questions about the challenges you are facing and practices you are employing with experienced IT workers nearing retirement, younger IT workers and intergenerational teams. Business Imperatives Survey 2005

Information technology lies at the heart of efforts by businesses to improve their efficiency, effectiveness and competitiveness, and its importance will grow over time. But a major barrier to more extensive implementation of IT is the capacity of general management to understand both its potential and its limitations.
This is one of the main conclusions from an in-depth telephone survey of more than 400 senior executives from large businesses in Europe, North America and Scandinavia undertaken by the Financial Times Research Centre on behalf of the Leading Edge Forum.
