Bridging the Gap between the CIO and the Board
Leading Edge Forum advisor F Warren McFarlan recently published an article in the Harvard Business Review on Information Technology and the Board of Directors which focused on a framework for Boards to develop IT policies that fit the companies they oversee. As a follow on to that research, we propose to look at the importance of the relationship CIOs have with Board of Directors, whether as Directors themselves or as an executive member of the management team for the company they support. We believe that these relationships are still evolving and CIOs desire next practice advice on why it is critical to build this important connection to advance their priorities and agendas, and to identify the approaches/techniques to best do so.
