This project will develop credible scenarios for the future organization of IT within large enterprises. Rather than just looking at the IT organization itself, we will look at the overall business approach and how companies come to decide who will do what, where, and when. In this regard timeframes are critical, and we expect to talk about changes over three, five, seven, and ten year intervals.
Key questions
- The project seeks answers to the following questions:
- How are business attitudes towards the management of information and technology changing?
- How will the balance of computing resources be allocated between in-house IT, outsourcing, and utility/cloud computing?
- What factors will shape this balance over the near and long term future?
- What models and frameworks can best describe and help plan for the coming transitions?
- How will these emerging IT strategies vary by industry and/or business model?
- How will these changes affect specific IT challenges such as business relationship management, portfolio management, risk management, spending and staffing?
