Doug Neal and Simon Wardley will report on our recent Study Tour to San Francisco and Silicon Valley, United States. This year’s tour investigated the theme of Mobility and the Onset of a Post-PC World visiting 13 companies including ARM, Google, Intel, Microsoft, PayPal, and Verizon.
As well as showing clear signs of the continued impact of consumerization and mobility, this year’s tour had six interesting features in comparison to previous years:
-
Situation normal everything must change – and this time we, too, have to change – we realized that change is the one constant in all our lives and we all struggle with it.
-
The importance of pizza – small teams work best, those which can be fed by only two pizzas. It is also vital to eat your own dog food as a way to validate your products.
-
The business importance of fun and passion – innovation is uncertain, you need passion to deliver.
-
Openness has become a competitive weapon – we saw the use of open source and open ecosystems to disrupt markets.
-
The increased importance of an Ecosystem – we met companies who really understood this. They are building platforms to enable others to create innovations that they can leverage.
-
The increased importance of our LEF Ecosystem – we all face the same challenges, but with different and diverse organizations. We always knew that the Study Tour was a great shared learning exercise, but its importance is now even greater.
In this web conference, we will report on what we heard, on the discussions we had, as well as outlining the action imperatives we took away from the tour.
Who should attend?
This web conference will appeal to CIOs and other business/IT leaders.
